Baby Mikayla - Newborn

I had the pleasure of photographing baby Mikayla when she was 11 days new. I had photographed her Mommy, Daddy and two older sisters back in the fall, so it was special to get to capture her shortly after her arrival. Mikayla wasn't super happy about getting out of her cozy car seat, but we got her settled down and happily snoozing in no time.

As I was planning for Mikayla's session, I had a vision of using purple and gray. I think the color combination turned out just lovely and it suited her so well. Turns out her Mommy likes this color combo too so it worked out perfect!

A week or so before Mikayla came to see me, my husband randomly stopped by a local thrift store and spotted this awesome suitcase. He called and asked if I wanted him to pick it up and of course, being addicted to props, I said YES! I was elated when he arrived home and I discovered it had purple satin lining. It was destined to be a part of Mikayla's session!

As if it couldn't get any better, I had made this gorgeous Rag Tie Garland specifically for this session and it went perfectly with the suitcase. It's now for sale in my Etsy Shop! You can view the listing here - Rag Tie Garland

Mikayla was kind enough to model one of my Newborn Elf Hats. She also treated us to a few smiles, one of which I managed to catch!

This adorable knitted number is also for sale in my Etsy shop! It can be made in any color combination of your chosing. You can find the listing here - Newborn Elf Hat

Modeling is hard work and Mikayla worked up an apetite. When she came back from having a snack, she was WIDE awake. She was also quite happy and wiggly which made it hard to keep her wrapped and particularly hard to keep her headband from becoming an eye patch - but it gave me a chance to capture her gorgeous eyes!

Once we got some awake photos, Mommy was able to coax Mikayla back to sleep and she slept the rest of the time. She was so cozy in this last pose that I utilized it to get some fun shots of some of my other handmade banners. These banners are available in my Etsy shop now. The LOVE banner listing can be viewed here - Burlap LOVE Banner

This yellow and grey banner is my favorite because it was my wedding colors! It was fun to get to use it in this session and it is also now for sale in my shop! The listing can be viewed here -

Baby lips. Baby cheeks. Enough said.

At the end of the session, Mikayla was sleeping so soundly that I just couldn't stop snapping pictures. I couldn't bring myself to move her into another pose and disturb her slumber, so I just switched a few things up for a bit of a different look. What would a little girl session be without throwing a little pink into the mix anyway?

As a "boy mom" whose son had not much more than a little peach fuzz until he was almost a year old, I'm fascinated by newborns with tons of hair! This shot gives you an idea of just how much this little lady has. I actually think she has just as much hair as my son does now. Beautiful!

Seriously, so precious. Loved capturing this sweet little one.
